Our “China Home”

“Is this China?” and “China is far,” are two things Luke repeatedly states every time we arrive somewhere new. Our “China Home”: this is what Luke calls it. Not exactly the kind of house you’d expect when moving to Shanghai…We live in an expat community which gives our kids the ability to still have a yard to play in, friends down the street, and the option to walk to school. Yet, we don’t have to go far to be reminded that we are living in China.

Donuts! This is how I've been bribing Luke to go to school everyday. It's been a big adjustment for everyone, but Luke was not about to go to school everyday...unless there was a donut involved at pickup time. Now he's the first one dressed and ready for school in the morning.

Homemade "huntun." One of the many advantages of hiring an ayi. I've spent less time cleaning the house and doing laundry, but more importantly...I've learned how easy it is to make homemade dumplings. YUM!
